THE BRIEF, THE BUILD, THE PAYOFF.

Growing More Than Trees

Growing More Than Trees

The City of Aurora’s work to expand its urban forest is about more than planting trees. Through a collaboration between the Office of International and Immigrant Affairs, Parks, Recreation and Open Space, community partners, and residents, the initiative connects environmental investment with participation, education, and access.

Our challenge was to translate that work into a story people could understand, connecting the scale of a public investment with the people, partnerships, and communities experiencing its impact.

Turning Public Investment Into a Human Story

Turning Public Investment Into a Human Story

Rather than building the film around programs, funding, and statistics alone, we structured the story around collaboration: the people implementing the work, the organizations helping connect residents to it, and the communities participating in Aurora’s changing urban landscape.

Interviews, footage from across the city, and archival material documenting the initiative’s earlier stages help connect where the work began with what is taking root today.

The result brings institutional information and human experience into the same story, making a complex public initiative easier to understand without losing the people at the center of it.

A Growing Impact Across Aurora

A Growing Impact Across Aurora

16,178
Trees inventoried

1,574
Trees planted

937
Trees trimmed

446
Hazardous trees removed

The film connects these numbers to the larger story behind them: a city investing in its urban forest while creating new opportunities for residents, including immigrant and refugee communities, to participate in and understand the environmental work happening around them.

Panamericana Media took the time to understand not only the work we’re doing, but why it matters to our community. They helped us turn a complex story involving multiple city departments, federal funding, and community participation into something clear, engaging, and human. Their collaborative approach made them feel like a true partner throughout the process.
